The Saratoga Springs City School District has a District Emergency Response Team and Building Emergency Response Teams for each building. The District would seek six hours of instruction per day for the purposes of State Aid Funding. This will include large classroom settings in the remote learning environment, as well as the use of breakout rooms or one-on-one virtual meetings as necessary. These decisions will be made in partnership with local health officials and emergency personnel, as applicable. In between live instruction, asynchronous assignments will be completed in between online sessions for both assessment and reinforcement purposes.

The building plans were then written by building-level committees and sent to the district committee for review. This component of Project SAVE is a comprehensive planning effort that addresses risk reduction/prevention, response, and recovery with respect to a variety of emergencies in the school district and its schools. Soon students talk with confidence about school safety. The teams also evaluate and supervise each school’s emergency plans and drills annually. Most recently, the Jefferson County teams have begun to attend to the unique safety needs of special education students through the Especially Safe program developed by our organization. The district’s multidisciplinary safety team takes advantage of the skills and expertise brought to the table by team members from the sheriff’s department, student services, facilities and school administrators for a truly holistic approach.
F. Contact Tracing Supports
The plan was developed by involving community members and representatives from each building. The Pine Bush Central School District supports the SAVE Legislation and recognizes the critical link between achievement and safe, healthy, orderly, and supportive school environments where learning can take place. To address these threats, the State of New York has enacted the Safe schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE) law. A building culture emerges where children, parents and faculty speak up when something doesn’t look right or when they see a challenge in the school community.

Such strategies include improving communications among students and between students and staff, reporting of potentially violent incidents and establishing reporting mechanisms for school violence. When the district conducts a full-scale exercise in conjunction with emergency responders, it will only be planned on a non-school day when school activities such as athletics are not occurring on school grounds. Each school building has a safety team that works under the Incident Command System.
They also have developed an early-intervention program gambling to help students deal with threatening and aggressive behavior. There was a need for adult role models, knowledge of planning and decision-making, and bonding to the school and community. This plan will be reviewed periodically during the year and will be maintained by the District-wide School Safety Team.
